Despite hiccups, Swim-a-Thon goes on
Every year ABSC schedules its annual Swim-a-Thon for the last weekend in October, and every year a special group of “guest coaches” have to fill in for the regular staff, who seem always at the last minute to get called away.
Last year ABSC swimmers were cheered on by the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, and C-3PO, while the year before it was Iron Man, Captain America, and the Incredible Hulk. This year, things were no different, as Coach Harvey, Coach Jonathan, and Coach Kevin really were out of town. What happened to Coaches Jos, Jess, Mike, Haley, and Tim, nobody knows.
Fortunately a group of rock star (and yes, they really are that good) coaches showed up, and Swim-a-Thon looked to be ready to go. Unfortunately the Ramsey Center itself did not cooperate as a rare case of pool chemical imbalance delayed the start.
Gups and Pups were able to get in eventually, but Superpups, Dawgs, and Seniors had to settle for waiting and watching videos by the 80s hair metal band, “Bon Harvey.”
Since none of the older swimmers were able to participate on Sunday afternoon, make up days have been scheduled for this week. Seniors will do their Swim-a-Thon on Sunday morning (11/3) from 7:00 to 9:00 am; Dawgs will have two opportunites–one on Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, and another on Sunday with the Seniors. Any swimmers who are not able to make Wednesday or Sunday should speak with their coach to schedule a time. Given the fact that some swimmers will not be doing their laps the end of the week, the deadline for turning in Swim-a-Thon money will now be November 6th.
