Swim, Study, and have Fun
The Elementary School Swim Program is a joint program by ABSC and the Athens YWCO. Its goal is to promote fitness and aquatic safety among elementary age children in Athens/Clarke County, while providing a safe, supervised environment for them after school.
Though there is a learn- to-swim component, the program is designed primarily to introduce novice swimmers to the world of competitive swimming. Coaches are certified by USA-Swimming and sessions will focus on improving stroke technique.
Since both the Bulldog Swim Club and the YWCO believe that good swimming and good grades go hand in hand, those who are not in the water have the opportunity to work on homework in a classroom environment. Participants are divided into two groups (based on age and ability), one of which attends a study hall monitored by counselors, while the other goes to a water session to practice swimming. After 50 minutes, the groups switch.
Snacks are provided and participants are supervised at all times.
