On September 21st, six ABSC swimmers participated in the 1st Annual Eric Shanteau Swim For Your Life open water race.
Held at Lake Lanier Islands, the event was hosted by Olympians and USA national team members Kathleen Hersey, Allison Schmitt, Amanda Weir, Haley Anderson, Alyssa Anderson, Megan Romano, Aaron Peirsol, and Matt McLean.
Participants were also treated to open water clinics, guest speakers, and live entertainment. Since Shanteau is a cancer survivor himself, all proceeds from Swim For Your Life were earmarked for the programs and services of the Livestrong Foundation.
Though the largest contingent of ABSC swimmers came from our Masters Group (Craig Paige, Kari Pederson, Gayla Chalmers, Melinda Camus, and Tom Schmaltz), SuperPup Caleb Camus also participated, finishing the 5K open water course in a time of 1:43:35. Complete results from the race are available on the Swim for your Life website.
ABSC swimmers of all ages who are interested in learning more about Open Water Swimming are encouraged to contact Melinda Camus.
Congratulations to all these Bulldogs for a great effort in support of a great cause!
