5 Signs ABSC is Looking Great Right Now!
— Athens, Ga. March 13th, 2019.
With 14&Under state less than a month ago, Senior Sectionals wrapping up this past weekend, and Northeast Divisionals awaiting on our doorstep here in the last weekend in March, it’s certainly an exciting time around ABSC!
ABSC swimmers just seem to continue improving all the time, and needless to say, they don’t plan on slowing down any time soon! It’s always great to be a Bulldog, but since we’re feeling good about things and we’re only a few weeks out of the big meet, we’ve decided to make a “by-the-numbers” list to show why ABSC is on a roll these days.
5 – ABSC’s place at the “Senior Sectionals” meet.
After placing 6th last year, ABSC moved up one spot to finish 5th at Senior Sectionals in Cary, North Carolina this past weekend! Interestingly, our 6th place score from last year was over 100 points less than this year’s 5th place finish, and would have landed us 8th or 9th this year. So even with a more competitive meet this time, the Dawgs moved up!
ABSC was also the smallest team represented in the top 10, and had a very strong point-scoring contribution from both the boy and girl swimmers this year, as the men placed 4th overall and the women finished 5th! Last year, the women did not score.
Three quick highlights included Charlie Logan placing 1st overall in the 200 back, Charlie, Jackson Harvin, and Ryan Wylie going 3rd, 4th, and 5th in the 200 free, and those three boys plus Gavin Jones claiming 2nd overall in the 4×200 freestyle relay.
4 – ABSC swimmers who qualified for the Georgia Open Water Zone Team
Emma Champer, Jenna Champer, Ella Freeman, and Will Foggin have been accepted to swim on the Georgia Open Water Zone Team! That marks an increase of one swimmer from last year, when ABSC placed Jenna Champer, Ansley Halbach, and William Johnson on the team. It’s not often that our Bulldogs get to swim in the Ocean, but if you sail past the coast of Fort Myers, Florida on the weekend of April 13th and 14th, you might see some “Doggy Paddle” if you will.
3 – ABSC swimmers selected to the Georgia Swimming LSC Select Camp
Memorial Day weekend just got a little more interesting for Jenna and Ella (mentioned above), along with McKee Thorsen! These three have been selected to participate in Georgia Swimming’s LSC-wide “Select Camp.” This weekend camp selects the top 16 boys and girls in each 18&U age group
2 – Consecutive Wins for ABSC at the Northeast Divisionals Meet
ABSC will be looking to defend it’s “back-to-back champion” status at the Northeast Divisionals Meet this year, when we once again host the meet! We’re almost 2 weeks out as well, as the meet will take place March 29th – 31st.
Despite our recent success, defending the home pool again will be no small task. We have an EXTREMELY competitive division meet with plenty of very strong clubs and fast swimmers on our doorstep, so claiming the Northeast Georgia crown once again will take everything we’ve got!
Whether or not we win, one thing is for certain – ABSC is going to bring our A-game in terms of racing, team spirit, and fun. Go Dawgs!!!
1 – ABSC’s place at the 14 & Under State Championship in February
As exciting as it was to watch ABSC’s performance at Senior Sectionals, the 14&Under state meet might have proven an even more enjoyable result for the Dawgs. For the first time since moving up out of the medium-sized team Division a couple of years ago, ABSC placed 1st in it’s team-size category at the meet! We finished 5th overall in the state, and finished 1st in the “Large Team” division.
What’s great about our 14&Under swimmers going really fast? They’ll be helping ABSC win a lot of races and meets for years to come.
So you can see there’s awesome stuff happening around here, and we’re excited to round out our 2018-2019 Short Course Season with one more big meet. Go Dawgs!!!
